What is a QR Code?

A Quick Response (or "QR") code is a printed, real-world link to digital information. ConnectMe QR™ utilizes this technology to link nearly any real-world surface via your smartphone to your online mCard (the mobile landing site whose content you control via an easy, back-end editor). Simply scanning this link with your smartphone, similar to a barcode scanner, sends you to your mCard. It's fast, easy and fun. No more typing... simply scan and tap! We've created a movie to explain it here.

Now... for those of you out there who like a little more geek in your speak: A QR code is a two dimensional matrix barcode that can store information locally and passively transfer that information optically to a QR-enabled smartphone reader. By carrying information in both directions, QR codes can carry up to several hundred times the amount of data carried by ordinary barcodes and can be used in tandem with a mobile browser to create a seamless link between print and web. The experience all throughout is where our designers and architects come in. We are dedicated to improving all aspects of these technologies, how they communicate with each other and their accessibility by everyone.

Why are QR codes important to my business or social standing?

QR codes have already swept the world and become a familiar networking tool for countless millions. To those outside of the US, these will likely be familiar tools of communication, but as they are just now entering into the US, more so than ever, it will be important to know how QR codes can improve your reach into your community. If you or your organization have any of the following, then you're already started:

* An email address
* A website
* A Twitter account
* A Facebook page
* A phone number
* A video or some other multimedia file such as an audio file

This is because QR codes link any printed surface with the digital world, turning that space into your own digital billboard. QR codes are more, though. They are a symbol of connectivity and information (similar to the 1990's with the "@" symbol and the 2000's with the "www" symbol). QR codes are the symbol of mobile linking. Just remember... an unused link is a useless link... get out there and share your links with the world. =)

What info can I put on my mCard?

At this point, you can place the most commonly found contact and social media links on your mCard, however we're constantly improving all aspects of our product lines and will be adding countless link combinations to make your mCard as powerful a networking tool as possible. Be sure to sign up today so that you're in the loop as we roll these improvements out! =)

How much data can a standard QR code store?

Depending upon the symbol version and the type of the characters. Up to 7,089 characters can be encoded in one symbol.

* Numeric only: a maximum of 7,089 characters
* Alphanumeric: a maximum of 4,296 characters

How do QR codes work?

Using QR code generator software, it is possible to store data such as text up to 7,089 characters. Once a QR code is created, using a scanning application on a mobile device or a handheld scanner connected to a computer, the data can be retrieved and processed for display or rerouting. This is where QR code technology stops and mobile web begins.

How are ConnectMe QR™ codes used in marketing?

ConnectMe QR™ codes act as physical links, connecting your print materials to your mCard (the mobile landing site whose content you control). Your ConnectMe QR™ code can be placed on business cards, catalogs, direct mail pieces, banners, posters, t-shirts, car magnets, yard signs, promotional stickers, product labels and much, much more. Each of these when scanned, will instantly take the user to your mCard... your digital business card and social routing hub.

Here are some of the common use cases for QR Codes in marketing campaigns:
Capturing responses on a direct mail campaign: A common use case of QR Codes in marketing campaigns is storing a URL in a QR Code and printing it on a direct mail piece as a response mechanism. When the recipients scan the barcode with the application on their mobile, they’ll connect to a landing page where they can find more information about the product or service being marketed, respond to the message, or simply sign up to receive the offer.

QR Codes can store both generic and personalized URLs. When using personalized QR Codes, the landing pages linked to the barcode can be personalized thus increasing odds to a favorable response by delivering a more targeted message.
QR Codes on a product or corporate brochure: Print brochures with a QR Code that links visitors to a web page containing product demonstration, video testimonials, FAQ and more. You can engage customers and prospects at another level.
QR Codes on press ads: Not everyone is at their desk, or in front of a computer when reading a magazine or newspaper, but by placing a QR Code on your press ad, readers can simply take a picture or scan the barcode to receive more information, a special offer or a coupon.

QR Codes on promotional items: Place a QR Code on giveaways such as T-shirts and coffee mugs and bring them to life.
There are many use cases for QR Codes in marketing. Used tactfully and creatively, QR Codes provide another way to engage customers and prospects by bringing mobile into the media mix and increasing odds of response by offering a convenient and relevant channel for communications.

Why are QR codes so important to marketing?

Mobile marketing is quickly becoming an essential ingredient for success in outreach campaigns. In fact, according to Forrester’s study on Interactive Advertising Models completed in July 2009, mobile advertising spent in the US will grow from $391 million in 2009 to $1.2 billion In 2014, representing a 27% compound annual growth rate (CAGR), making mobile marketing second only to social media marketing with a CAGR of 34%.

According to the international association for the wireless telecommunications industry, CTIA, wireless penetration in the US is more than 90% of population. Smartphone market share in the US jumped from 7% in 2007 to 17% in 2009 and is expected to grow rapidly in 2010 and beyond, with over 1 billion anticipated smartphone users by 2013. Since there is often a gap between the established print marketplace and the rapidly growing digital marketplace, QR codes, in conjunction with smartphones, are becoming the natural bridge.

I would like to create several accounts, but I run across an "Access Denied" error after the first account.

We're aware of this issue and are working on a solution. In the meantime, after creating an account, logout, then set up the next account. You'll have to do this each time as the system automatically logs you in with each setup. We apologize for this inconvenience and should have a solution for you shortly! =)

How do I scan my ConnectMe QR™ code?

First, you will need a smartphone. Most smartphones are capable of reading your ConnectMe QR™ code and if you have a smartphone (an iPhone, Android device, BlackBerry or Windows Phone 7 device), then you're well on the way! Then, you will need a QR reader installed on your phone (ours is free!). If you have an iPhone, you can download one here: If you have an Android device, then you can download one here: However, if you have either of these two phones and want a quick and easy solution right on your phone, then text "FAQ" to this number: (828) 357-4838 and we'll send back a text download link that will point you to the right download location for your particular model of smartphone. If you have another smartphone device, then simply search for "QR reader" in your appropriate app marketplace. We're working on apps for other devices and should have something soon! Be sure to sign up today to be in the loop!

Once you have the QR reader installed on your smartphone, launch the QR reader app and place your ConnectMe QR™ in the cross hairs of the scanner. That's it! If you're using our scanner, then you'll be instantly taken to your mCard. If you're using another QR scanner, you might have to initiate the link by pressing it after it gives you the URL. We're not saying that our QR code is better... but... ;)

How is my Credit Card billed?

Your ConnectMe QR™ account is a monthly or annual subscription. You are pre-billed (non-refundable) for the month or year of service. If you choose to cancel before the end of the month or year's billing, credit will not be issued. Service will remain active through the end of the pre-billed monthly or annual period. Each billing period starts from the same day of the month or year that your credit card is initially charged; this is called your renewal day. The credit card payment process is facilitated by the service of PayPal, and the charge is made on the first day of each billing period or your renewal day.

Your ConnectMe QR™ subscription will be automatically renewed and billed each renewal day unless you cancel your subscription here at least one (1) day prior to your upcoming renewal day. If you are taking advantage of the ConnectMe QR™ Free Trial, then you will have thirty (30) days to try our monthly subscription before a charge is made on or after your renewal day and before your monthly subscription begins and is then automatically billed each month thereafter on your renewal day. To cancel your subscription at any time, simply login, open the "Edit Account" tab, then click on "Recurring Fees". From there, you will have the option to cancel your subscription.
